Nifty Fifty
The latest addition to my camera gear is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens, affectionately known as a “nifty fifty” by photographers and enthusiasts. With its aperture of f/1.8 at the widest it is a most versatile and useful lens. You might think that the fixed focal length is restrictive, it is actually a massive positive and I’ll tell you why. Because it makes you work harder! You cannot simply stand in front of your subject and zoom in and out – you have to move yourself and/or the subject.

Ant, I totally agree with you about the 50mm. I love mine – but as you say, you have to work harder, it’s not very forgiving!
